Tokyo has over 160,000 restaurants. Thousands of social media posts go up every week highlighting places across the city. Google reviews, Tabelog ratings, TikTok videos, Instagram reels — the signal is everywhere, but it's scattered and overwhelming.
TokyoCalling is a data-driven discovery platform that pulls it all together. We track social media posts, aggregate ratings from Google and Tabelog, and score every place with our TC Score — a composite rating out of 100 that tells you, at a glance, whether a restaurant is worth your time and your trip.
How It Works
We monitor thousands of social media posts across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, identifying which Tokyo restaurants are generating real engagement — not paid promotions, not sponsored content, but genuine visitor reactions. We cross-reference that social signal data with Tabelog ratings (Japan's strictest restaurant review platform) and Google review scores.
The result is the TC Score: a single number that combines social media traction, local ratings, and review volume into a clear ranking. A TC Score above 90 means a restaurant is performing at an exceptional level across every data source we track. You get the score, the location, the price range, the nearest station, and the reservation details — everything you need to make a decision, nothing you don't.
What We Are Not
We are not a food blog. We are not a guidebook. We don't rank restaurants by personal taste or paid placement. There is no "OMG this ramen changed my life" editorial voice here. The data speaks. The curation is the product.
Every claim on TokyoCalling is backed by a number, a rating, or an observable detail. When we say a restaurant is top-tier, we mean it scored above 90 across multiple independent data sources. When we say a place has zero social media presence, we mean we searched our database of thousands of posts and found nothing. Specificity over superlatives — that's the standard.
